Does Faust cover the speaking module?

Yes. Faust has Sprechen papers for every level from A1 to C2, built on the tasks of the real exam. Reading, listening and writing papers are there too.

The Goethe exam is the German exam of the Goethe-Institut. It has six levels: A1, A2, B1, B2, C1 and C2. From B1 up, reading, listening, writing and speaking are separate modules, and each module has its own result.

How the pass mark works

Goethe A1: the exam has 100 points, 75 written and 25 speaking. You pass with 60 points in total, and you must take every part.

Goethe A2: you pass with 60 of 100 points in total. At least 45 of the 75 written points and at least 15 of the 25 speaking points are necessary.

Goethe B1, B2, C1 and C2: each module has 100 points. You pass a module with 60 points. Each module counts on its own, so a high reading score does not make up for a low writing score.

Goethe online test: every part in the browser

A Goethe online test on Faust is one full exam part: the same tasks, the same order and the same time limit as at the test centre. Reading and listening are scored against the answer key when you hand in, and writing and speaking are marked on the exam criteria. You see your result for each part, so you know which part to practise next.

You take the real Goethe exam at a Goethe-Institut or a Goethe test centre. Take the online test first, and book when your results reach the pass mark.

What a Faust paper gives you

Each Faust paper follows the parts, task types and time limits of its Goethe level. You can work online, where every paper gets a result, or print the PDF.

How to practise

Choose your level and one part: reading, listening, writing or speaking.
Work through the paper under the real time limit, without extra time.
Read your result by part and find the tasks that cost you points.
Practise the weakest part again with a new paper, not the same one.
From B1 up, aim for 60 of 100 points in every module, because each module counts on its own.
Book the real exam at a test centre on goethe.de when your results reach the pass mark.
