In telc Deutsch B1 (Zertifikat Deutsch), Hörverstehen has three parts and 20 statements. For each statement you decide richtig or falsch: you mark plus for richtig and minus for falsch on the answer sheet S30. The recording runs without a break, so you cannot pause or go back.
The players below hold the three recordings of Übungssatz 1: Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3. The statement we solve is in Part 3, the second of five short announcements.

Part 3
The task: Hörverstehen Teil 3, statement 57 (Übungssatz 1)
In Teil 3 you hear five short texts, such as announcements and recorded phone messages. You hear each text twice, and each text has one statement.
Statement 57: „Die Einführung zur Fotoausstellung beginnt um 16 Uhr.“ In English: the introduction to the photo exhibition starts at 4 pm.
Try it first: play Part 3, listen to the second announcement, and decide richtig or falsch before you read on.
What the announcement says
A man speaks to the visitors of an exhibition. The key sentences:
- „Liebe Gäste, um sechzehn Uhr öffnen wir die Türen zu unserer neuen Fotoausstellung.“ At 4 pm the doors of the exhibition open.
- „Sie haben dann eine halbe Stunde Zeit, selbst durch die Räume zu gehen.“ Then you have half an hour to walk through the rooms on your own.
- „Um sechzehn Uhr dreißig beginnt im vorderen Raum eine kurze Einführung zu den Fotografien.“ At 4.30 pm a short introduction to the photos starts in the front room.
Answer: falsch
Statement 57 is falsch. You do hear sechzehn Uhr, but it belongs to the doors opening („öffnen wir die Türen“). The introduction starts half an hour later, at sechzehn Uhr dreißig.
This is a typical trap in telc listening: the number in the statement is in the recording, but it belongs to a different event. Do not tick richtig because you heard the number. Listen for the verb and the noun that go with it: öffnen goes with the doors, beginnt goes with the Einführung.
On the second play, listen only for the part of the sentence you were unsure about. That is what the second play is for.
The same trap in Teil 2: statement 49
Statement 49 in Part 2: „Die Gruppe trifft sich jede Woche.“ In the interview, Anna Berger says: „Wir treffen uns jeden zweiten Donnerstag.“ Jeden zweiten Donnerstag means every second Thursday, so the statement is falsch.
Here the trap is the frequency, not the time. Words like jeden, jeden zweiten, nur, erst and nicht mehr decide many telc B1 statements.
