The oral exam of telc Deutsch B2 takes 15 minutes for a pair, after 20 minutes of preparation. It has three parts: Über Erfahrungen sprechen, Diskussion and Gemeinsam etwas planen. The task cards below come from Faust paper Übungssatz 01.
The start is not scored
You first introduce yourselves to each other. Dieser Abschnitt wird nicht bewertet.“ Use it to get used to your partner and your voice.
Teil 1: Über Erfahrungen sprechen
Choose one of seven topics and talk about your own experience for at most one and a half minutes. The words in brackets are prompts, not a checklist. Then answer your partner’s questions, listen to their report and ask questions about it. You can prepare this part at home. The seven topics on the card:
Teil 1: sentences to use (Faust suggestions)
A clear first sentence for your report.
- „Überrascht hat mich vor allem, dass ...“ To say what made the experience special.
- „Wie bist du eigentlich darauf gekommen?“ A follow up question to your partner.
- „Rückblickend würde ich sagen, dass ...“ To end with your own view.
Teil 2: Diskussion
The text on the card is called „Klimafragen im Alltag: Wie sinnvoll sind Antworten von KI?“ You first sum up the points you find interesting in at most one minute. Then you discuss with your partner: give your view with reasons, bring in your own experience, react to your partner’s arguments and talk about possible solutions.
One line from the text you can build on: „Allerdings ist Verständlichkeit noch kein Beleg für Zuverlässigkeit.“ An answer that is easy to understand is not proof that it is right.
Teil 2: sentences to use (Faust suggestions)
- „Im Text wird erwähnt, dass ...“ To sum up an argument from the text.
Teil 3: Gemeinsam etwas planen
Make suggestions and say why they work, react to your partner’s ideas, agree on a plan with a programme, and decide who does what. The open points on the card (date, programme, tasks) give you the structure of the talk.
Teil 3: sentences to use (Faust suggestions)
- „Ich schlage vor, dass wir zuerst den Termin festlegen.“ To open the plan.
- „Gute Idee, und außerdem könnten wir ...“ To build on your partner’s suggestion.
- „Wer kümmert sich um die Einladung?“ To split the tasks.
- „Dann halten wir fest: Du ... und ich ...“ To sum up the plan at the end.
What the examiners score in each Teil
Each Teil gives up to 25 points, 75 in total. Two examiners mark you. A monologue does not fully count for Aufgabenbewältigung: they need to hear you react to your partner.
