The reading part of telc Deutsch B2 has two units: Leseverstehen, reading comprehension, and Sprachbausteine, gaps for grammar and words. You get 90 minutes for both together and split the time yourself across five parts.
The task: Leseverstehen Teil 2, item 6
Teil 2 gives you two articles and five questions, 6 to 10, each with three options. This one comes from Faust paper Übungssatz 01. The instruction on the paper: „Lesen Sie die beiden Artikel.
From the first article, „Was sich einzeln verkaufen lässt“: „Den Mantel und zwei hochwertige Blusen schickt sie an den Verkaufsservice Kleiderbogen.
Item 6: choose a, b or c
Answer: b, and why
The answer is b. The key sentence is „Ausschlaggebend ist für sie, dass dessen Mitarbeitende sämtliche Nachrichten von Kaufinteressierten beantworten.“ Ausschlaggebend means decisive, so this sentence gives her reason. The next sentence backs it up: when Mara sold a coat herself, she had to send measurements again and again and argue about the price. She no longer has time for that.
Option b says the same thing in other words. The service answers every buyer for her, so she is spared the separate arrangements with each buyer: „die einzelnen Absprachen mit Kaufinteressierten“. The text never uses the word Absprachen. The match is in the meaning, not in the words.
Why a and c are wrong
- a) picks up the word Preis from the text. But the text only says Mara used to argue about the price herself. It never says the service lets her set the price.
- c) says the opposite of the text. Mara gets her money only after the sale: „Den übrigen Betrag erhält Mara erst, wenn das Kleidungsstück verkauft ist.“ Erst, wenn means not before.
The habit to take into the exam
In Teil 2, wrong options often repeat words from the text, and the right option repeats the meaning. Find the sentence that answers the question first. Then choose the option that says the same thing, even when it shares no words with that sentence.
Teil 1 and Teil 3 work differently. In Teil 1 you match ten headings to five short texts, so five headings stay unused. In Teil 3 you match twelve short Info-Texte to ten situations, and you mark x when no text fits. The table below shows all five parts.
