The rule comes from the Goethe-Institut exam rules. Fees differ by country, city, level and centre, so a price from another country tells you little about yours.

This page lists the prices that Goethe-Institut exam pages showed on 13 October 2026, and the fee rules that apply at every centre: what happens when you are ill, when you get money back, and which extra fees a centre can charge.

You book your exam place with the Goethe-Institut or a Goethe test centre. Faust Academy is an independent practice platform.

Module fees from B1 up

Goethe B1, B2, C1 and C2 are modular. You can take Lesen, Hören, Schreiben and Sprechen alone or together, and each passed module gets a certificate.

Because you can register for one module, a failed module does not mean a full new exam. You retake only the module you did not pass, and you pay the fee the centre sets for it.

You can retake a Goethe exam as often as you want. In the modular exams you can also retake single modules as often as you want.

How to spend less on the exam

Practise before you book, so you do not pay for a retake.
From B1 up, book only the modules you need, if your goal accepts module certificates.
Count travel costs if your nearest test centre is in another city.
Keep your certificate safe: a replacement costs a fee.

Practice before you pay the exam fee
