Start with the official practice sets
g.a.s.t., the institute that develops the DTZ for the BAMF, publishes two practice sets at no cost: Übungssatz 1 and Übungssatz 2, each as PDF with audio. The BAMF points to the g.a.s.t. website for all current DTZ practice tests (Übungssätze). The Goethe-Institut also offers DTZ sample tasks for listening and reading online.
Use them first, because they are the real format. The page describes no marking of the letter you write or the talk you give. In the real exam, Sprechen decides the certificate: with a result below A2 in Sprechen you get no DTZ certificate, whatever your other results.

How the marking works, with a sample
Faust marks your DTZ letter on the official DTZ criteria and gives you every Sprechen task in the real format, with photo cards and guides. The sample below shows the method on a Goethe B1 letter, and every exam is marked on its own criteria.
A language model reads the text and reports facts only: corrections, task points done, moves made. Fixed code sets the bands and the points. The Faust team wrote the sample text, and the live writing marker marked it on 16 October 2026: 37.5 of 40 points, and every lost point has a reason.
Why points are missing in the sample
- Strukturen (structures), Spelling: "Wochenede" becomes "Wochenende". Wochenende needs the letter n. 0.5 points
- Strukturen (structures), Word form: "deine" becomes "deiner". mit takes dative: mit deiner Mutter. 1 point
- Strukturen (structures), Word order: "Wir könnten am Samstag ins Museum gehen, danach ich koche für dich" becomes "Wir könnten am Samstag ins Museum gehen, danach koche ich für dich." After danach, the verb comes second. 1 point

Choose what to practise
The DTZ exam in short
The Deutsch-Test für Zuwanderer (DTZ) certifies A2 or B1 as the overall result. Below A2 there is no certificate, only a result letter.
The DTZ has a written and an oral part. The written part takes 100 minutes, with listening and reading tasks and a short letter. The oral part takes 16 minutes: you introduce yourself and talk with the examiners and another candidate.
Faust Academy is an independent trainer, built on the official DTZ papers.

DTZ writing rules
DTZ Schreiben: you choose task A or task B and write one letter or e-mail in 30 minutes. The task names four points to cover. Write a greeting and a closing. Only the text on the answer sheet is marked, and you mark on it which task you chose.
There is no minimum word count, but in a very short text (for example under 40 words) Korrektheit and Wortschatz can hardly reach B1. A subject line, date or address is allowed and gives no extra points. Full points in Aufgabenbewältigung need all four points. Only one text is marked, so write one task in full.

How DTZ speaking is marked
Both examiners mark DTZ Sprechen on their own, and the final mark is the mean of the two. Aufgabenbewältigung (task completion) is marked per part, 50 points in total. Aussprache und Intonation (pronunciation), Flüssigkeit (fluency), Korrektheit (accuracy) and Wortschatz (vocabulary) cover the whole conversation, another 50 points. B1 starts at 75 of 100 points, A2 at 35.
Sprechen decides the certificate: with a result below A2 in Sprechen you get no DTZ certificate, whatever your other results.
