In the listening part of telc Deutsch B2 you hear each recording once: a news broadcast, a radio interview and five short announcements. For each statement you decide richtig (true) or falsch (false).

### Try Part 1 yourself: statements 41 to 45

You get 30 seconds to read these before the news starts. Then play Part 1 once and mark each one richtig or falsch.

- 41. Für das neue Erinnerungsarchiv werden auch Berichte von Menschen gesammelt, die nach dem Hochwasser geholfen haben.
- 42. Die Stadt verlegt die Abendkurse, damit das Bildungszentrum renoviert werden kann.
- 43. Die zusätzliche Busverbindung zum Gewerbegebiet wird zunächst probeweise angeboten.
- 44. Die neue Sporthalle kann bereits von Vereinen genutzt werden.
- 45. Die Stadt übernimmt bei allen Geschäften die gesamten Kosten für neue Fahrradständer.

### Use the 30 seconds

Underline the small word in each statement that the news must confirm: auch in 41, damit in 42, zunächst probeweise in 43, bereits in 44, allen and gesamten in 45. These small words are what the news confirms or contradicts.

Part 1 has six short news reports and five statements, in the order of the news. The third report, about a seed swap, has no statement. Do not wait for one there, or you lose your place.

### Item 44: what you hear

„44. Die neue Sporthalle kann bereits von Vereinen genutzt werden.“ This says clubs can already use the new sports hall. It belongs to the fifth report:

„Die Bauarbeiten an der neuen Sporthalle am Schulpark sind abgeschlossen. Boden, Umkleiden und Zuschauerplätze sind fertiggestellt. Bevor die Vereine dort trainieren dürfen, steht allerdings noch die technische Abnahme aus. Dabei werden unter anderem die Lüftung und die Sicherheitseinrichtungen geprüft. Erst nach dieser Prüfung gibt die Stadt die Halle für den Sportbetrieb frei. Bis dahin bleiben die bisherigen Trainingsorte bestehen.“

### Answer: falsch, and why

The report opens with words that sound like yes: abgeschlossen (finished) and fertiggestellt (completed). The turn comes with allerdings (however): the technical inspection is still to come. „Erst nach dieser Prüfung“, only after this inspection, does the city open the hall, and „Bis dahin“, until then, the clubs train where they did before. So the clubs cannot use the hall yet, and 44 is falsch.

telc B2 statements often test a condition, not the headline. Keep listening after the first sentence of each report.

### Check your answers to Part 1

- 41 richtig: the archive also wants accounts from people who helped after the flood.
- 42 richtig: the courses move so that the centre can be renovated.
- 43 richtig: the extra buses run as a trial first, and a decision on regular service comes later.
- 44 falsch: the hall is built, but clubs may use it only after the inspection.
- 45 falsch: the city pays only part of the cost, and only for shops in the town centre.

### The telc Deutsch B2 listening part

Hörverstehen gives 75 points in 20 minutes. Every recording plays once, and every statement is richtig or falsch. Points per item come from the answer key of the Faust paper.

### Pass mark

You pass telc Deutsch B2 with at least 135 of 225 points in the written exam and at least 45 of 75 points in the oral exam, which is 60 percent of each. Listening gives 75 of the 225 written points.
