You can appeal within two weeks of the result and retake any Goethe exam as often as you want. From B1 to C2 you retake only the module you failed. These rules come from the Prüfungsordnung of the Goethe-Institut, dated 1 September 2025. They apply at every Goethe test centre in the world. Local details, such as the fee and the date of your retake, come from your test centre. The Prüfungsordnung gives no fixed number of days until results. Some test centres publish their own time on their website. The Goethe-Institut Pakistan, for example, says that its results are usually published 20 working days after the exam. Ask your own test centre when you register. ### From the exam day to your certificate - You take the exam at a test centre. From B1 upward you can take one, two, three or all four modules on the same day. - Two examiners mark Schreiben and Sprechen. Lesen and Hören are marked with an answer key. - The test centre gives you your results. It cannot release a single result before the others. - If you pass, you get a certificate on paper or as a PDF. The test centre decides the form. - If you fail, the test centre tells you the conditions for a retake. The Prüfungsordnung says that pointing at the points you missed is not enough. The person in charge of exams at the test centre decides. In case of doubt the Goethe-Institut head office decides, and its decision on the marks is final. If your appeal succeeds, you choose between a refund of the fee under the fee rules and a retake at no cost. You can also ask to see your marked answers within three months of the result. You see your answers and your marks. You do not see the tasks or the model answers, and you do not get copies. ### Retakes at A1 and A2 A1 and A2 are one exam. All parts count together, so you retake the whole exam, not one part. There is no limit on how often you retake it. At A1 you pass with 60 of 100 points in total. At A2 you also need 45 of 75 written points and 15 of 25 speaking points. Start your practice with the part that cost you the most points. ### Retakes from B1 to C2 Goethe B1, B2, C1 and C2 are modular. You can take Lesen, Hören, Schreiben and Sprechen alone or together, and each passed module gets a certificate. You can retake a Goethe exam as often as you want. In the modular exams you can also retake single modules as often as you want. Your passed modules keep their certificates. When you pass the missing module later, you can combine the certificates. On request, and where the test centre can do it, you get one overall certificate with your best results in the four modules from one year. A test centre can set its own time frames for a retake. It tells you about them together with your result. You have no legal right to one exam date. ### A plan for the weeks before your retake - Write down the points your result shows for each module or part. - If you can, ask to see your marked answers. It shows you where the points went. - Practise the failed module under real time limits, one full paper at a time. - Score every practice paper against the pass mark of 60, so you know when you are ready. - Book the retake when you pass practice papers with a margin, not on the first day you reach 60. ### Practise the module you need Faust Academy has 288 Goethe practice papers, sorted by level and module. Each online paper gets a score against the real pass rule of its level. One scored online paper per part is free, and every PDF is free. Faust Academy is independent practice. It is not a product of the Goethe-Institut and issues no certificates. ### Questions **How long do Goethe exam results take?** The Prüfungsordnung gives no fixed number of days.
